    Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church has been selected to receive the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches' National Christian Education Idea of the Year award.

WLGBC is being honored for its Input/Output Vacation Bible School program held in 1989. Designed by church member Janice Workman, the program reminded children that their minds are like computers - put good things in so good things come out.

August 3 1975

    Julia Zimmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Zimmerman, Rt. 4, Warsaw, won the Grand Champion award during the 4-H Dog Show - the pre-opening event of the 59th Kosciusko County Fair - held at the fairgrounds. Julia took "Missy," a mixed breed, from the Humane Shelter two years ago and has taken time and interest in training the animal. Julia also was awarded a trophy and blue ribbon for first place in the senior division.

August 3 1950

    J.C. Penney, founder of the large retail organization bearing his name, will speak at the Billy Sunday tabernacle at Winona Lake. His subject will be, "The Golden Rule in Business and Industry."


75 Years Ago
August 3 1925

    Earl Himes, teacher in the North Webster High School, has a long distance Sunday school record of continuous attendance for five years, 261 consecutive Sundays without a miss. He lived 5-1/2 miles from the church, where he taught a Sunday school class, necessitating an 11-mile trip every Sunday morning. Himes, who is attending Winona College, next fall will teach English and history in the Mentone High School.
