    Dallas Winchester II has been chosen as the new Kosciusko County chairman for the Democrat party.

The 29-year-old Milford resident was elected by precinct committeemen over Gerald Romine, who was also nominated. Winchester replaces Dale Tucker, who announced last month his resignation.

    Two area youngsters, Scott Woods and Maurice Lewis, took first and fourth places, respectively, at the recent National Summer Olympics go-kart races at Two Flags Raceway in Concord, N.C. Scott, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Woods, Mentone, won the junior box stock and took second in the junior modified, while Maurice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lewis, Akron, managed fourth in the junior modified.

August 29 1951

    Gayle Smith, Warsaw, spent a very successful weekend of stock car racing, winning feature races at both the Warsaw Speedway and the New Paris Speedway. Smith topped the field in the 50-lap feature here Saturday night, winning the mid-season championship trophy.

On Sunday night, Smith took his car to New Paris and won the feature race there.

    James O. Magner, Scott and Smith streets, has left a 2-pound tomato at The Times office. Under normal weather conditions, he claims, this variety would grow to 3 to 4 pounds.
