    A machine that "smells" was presented Thursday to the Warsaw Fire Department for use by the Squad 70 Fire Investigation Team to help detect arson.

The "sniffer" has the capacity to "smell" through the ashes of a burned building to detect what kind of substance was used to start the fire and spread it rapidly through the building. The machine, along with an evidence collection kit, was donated by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Co.

    Principal R.V. Reed of Whitko High School announced that 21 of their students have been inducted into The Society of Distinguished American High School Students.

Students who were inducted were: Lisa Bitting, Liz Burkett, Brenda Conley, Doug Engelberth, Joni English, Gregg Kiefer, Rose Loe, Loretta Manual, Cheryl Montel, Jody Vandersaul, Felicia Delorme, Tamara Chapman, Tom Engelberth, Paula Germann, Randy Kelsey, Wayne Landis, Jon Myers, Ryan Piper, Joe Ellen Plew, Lori Smith and Doug Whitehead.

    Glenn Longenecker, 17, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Longenecker, 1030 E. Center St., passed tests for enlistment in the Navy Tuesday at Indianapolis and is en route to Bainbridge, Md., for boot training. Graduated from Warsaw High School last May, the youth was employed at Dalton Foundries Inc.

    Mr. and Mrs. Arby Disbrow were given a good rousing belling Saturday night by their friends. They were carried through the streets of Warsaw on a huge truck for over an hour, accompanied by a number of noisy automobiles.
