INDIANAPOLIS - Sarah Bensing of North Webster and Andy Keener of Leesburg were named first runners-up in the Little Mr. and Miss pageant at the Indiana State Fair Aug. 13.

Both 7 years old, Bensing is the daughter of Ami Bensing of North Webster. Keener is the son of Dave and Gina Keener of Leesburg.

Andrew Dewayne McBride, 20, son of Kenneth and Donna McBride, Warsaw, has been called to serve a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. McBride will receive several weeks of training in Provo, Utah, beginning in September, and then will begin his service in the church's North Carolina Charlotte Mission.

Dickie Dean Marshall, 14, of near North Manchester, has exhibited the grand champion steer at the Wabash County 4-H Fair.

Dick is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Marshall, North Manchester.

Anson Borkert, local barber, believes in practicing thrift in the right way.

Last May he purchased and ate a cantaloupe at the Foote restaurant. He saved and planted the seeds. Tomorrow he will have fresh melons from these seeds. "It's all free, too," quoth Anson. Borkert is better remembered as an old-time baseball player and slugger. He occasionally produces hand-made bats for his special ball-playing friends.
