    For first year Head Coach Corey Rose, it was history in the making.

The first game of his first season resulted in the first win ever by a Warsaw soccer squad over South Bend John Adams 2-0 in the home opener at the CCAC Tuesday night.

    Oscar Werner, past commander of the John C. Peterson American Legion Post 49 in Warsaw, will leave Saturday for the National American Legion Convention in Houston, Texas.

Werner, of Warsaw, will be among 13 Indiana delegates to attend the veterans' convention. He will represent the Second District of Indiana.

August 23 1954

    Pvt. James Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Weber, North Manchester, is now serving in Korea with the 44th engineer construction group.

Weber is a heavy vehicle driver in the 704th engineer dump truck company. His unit is part of the group which coordinates and supervised all engineer construction in the UN supply zone of South Korea.

August 23 1929

    Edward J. Byers, 84, of Bird City, Kan., accompanied by his wife, Elizabeth Watts Byers, 74, and his grandson, Merl Howk, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer James and other relatives in Warsaw and Clunette vicinity. They will attend the Leesburg Old Timers' meeting next Tuesday. Mrs. Byers was born and reared in Leesburg. The Byers left Warsaw in 1885. Mr. Byers is a veteran of the 20th Ohio Volunteers and marched through Georgia to the sea with General Sherman's troops.
