    Tom McConnell, son of Larry and Joyce McConnell, Oakwood Drive, Warsaw, recently signed a contract to teach high school biology at North White High School, Monon. McConnell graduated in December 1987 from Purdue University. He is a 1981 graduate of Warsaw Community High School.

    Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Huffman, Route 5, Warsaw, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of their marriage with an open house to be held on Aug. 12 at Warsaw First Brethren Church. They are the parents of Wilma Chrisenberry, Warsaw, and Mrs. Ward (Donna Belle) Thomas, Atwood. There are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

August 19 1948

    Maurice C. Warner, Pierceton youth, has been awarded a certificate of merit and junior membership in the Holstein-Friesian association of America, of Brattleboro, Vt. The youth was recommended for the award by the state 4-H club head.

August 19 1923

    A big outdoor checkerboard, a 10-and-four table on which four large checkerboards are drawn making it possible to play four games at a time, is located on the knoll between the old and new auditoriums at Winona Lake. Athletic director Hol Slutz states that there is considerable interest in checkers at Winona.
