Skies have cleared, but four inches of rain in two days has area lakes spilling over their banks. Mayor Jeff Plank had Warsaw workers preparing sandbags in case of flooding. Plank said he was especially concerned about Pike Lake. "Pike is teetering on brink," the mayor added.

August 19 1975

    Robert Swain, of Rt. 3, Syracuse, had a rather hearty meal a few weeks back after he caught a five-pound, 22-inch bass at Dewart Lake. It was caught on a jointed rapala.

August 19 1950

    Jim Lozier, of Warsaw, captured the feature race at the New Paris Speedway. He also won the second heat race. Bob Wiles and Chuck McKibben, both of Syracuse, also won heat races. Another Syracuse race driver, Gene Smith, is in a walking cast as the result of suffering a fractured hip last week while driving a micro-midget at Syracuse. Smith was injured at New Paris only a few weeks ago.

    The biggest thing in auto racing that has even been attempted in the middle west will be stated on Labor Day at Rochester, when race fans will see the longest race that has even been held in this part of the country on the dirt track.

Already a number of the middle western stars have signified their intention of entering to battle for the rich prize of $2,500.
