August 18 1994

    Syracuse Miller's Merry Manor resident Maude Jackson, 99, presented Fire Chief Jerry Byrd with a painting of a fire truck. The painting was given to Byrd in appreciation of Syracuse Fire Department's program about fire safety which was presented at the nursing home and for providing fire protection to the community. Miller's Merry Manor volunteer Ann Nyikos, an art class instructor, provided Jackson with guidance in the artwork.

August 18 1979

    Barry Lemons won the Sportsman Class feature Saturday night at the Warsaw Motor Speedway and in so doing set a one-lap track record, marking the sixth time the Sportsman record has fallen this season.

It is the second time Warsaw's Lemons has rewritten Sportsman record this year. The new mark is 18.70 seconds, bettering the old record by John Orr which was set only last week.

August 18 1954

    Lash LaRue, cowboy movie star who is appearing in a western show a the county fair, congratulated Margret Frush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rulo Frush, of Warsaw, after she won a bicycle, one of the many prizes given away as a highlight of "Kiddies' Day."

    Gorman B. Grossnickle celebrated his 25th anniversary in the United States postal service. He is assistant postmaster at North Manchester post office and has been in the office all of the 25 years.
