    TERRE HAUTE - Three local students were among 50 from across Indiana who participated in the 1991 drum major clinic at Indiana State University recently.

Jeremy Rush and Mindi Schrader of Whitko High School and Chad Clark of Triton High School attended the four-day clinic. It was the first time ISU held the clinic.

August 18 1976

    Glenda Bronnenberg, Rt. 2, Akron, received one of the five Top Honor awards at the annual Pletcher Village Art Festival at Amish Acres near Nappanee. A $100 cash prize accompanied the honor for a traditional overshot coverlet pattern in a wall hanging. Bronnenberg, who has been weaving for just a year, was the only Top Honor winner from Kosciusko County.

    Announcement was made of the promotion of Second Lieutenant Betty Flory, Mentone, to first lieutenant in the army nurse corps reserve.

Lieutenant Flory, a nurse at the McDonald Hospital in Warsaw, served as an army nurse in World War II for 10 months at the La Garde General Hospital, New Orleans, La.

August 18 1926

    Charles F. Miller will complete his term of service as rural mail carrier from Sidney on Aug. 21. He will have by that time reached the age of 69, and has already had two extensions of time as carrier.

Miller has carried that route for 24 years and eight months, and has lost but little time. In all of that time he has not lost, he thinks, over 15 days from sickness. Today there are only about 10 heads of families on his route who were at the head of a family when he made his first trip.
