    Chris Schenkel, a world-wide broadcasting celebrity and a resident of Tippecanoe Lake, will be honored at "A Salute To Chris Schenkel" in Indianapolis on Saturday, commemorating his 70th birthday and 52 years in broadcasting.

    At the National Convention of the Independent Sewing Machine Dealers Association held recently in Atlanta, Ga., Dean Harmon was re-elected to the ISMDA Board of Directors.

Harmon owns Lowery Sewing Center, 2114 E. Winona Ave., Lakeview Shopping Center, Warsaw.

    Approximately 200 neighbors and friends of Dr. J.C. Hay, of Silver Lake, Indiana Dentist of the Year, attended the celebration in his honor held Friday evening at the Silver Lake school building.

Dr. Hay, a lifelong resident of Silver Lake, spoke, noting changes to professional dental techniques during his 59 years of practice and also changes in the community.

August 18 1928

    W.H. Berst, Leesburg hardware merchant, has quite a curiosity in a piece of petrified wood. About three years ago Berst installed a water filter at his home and used a piece of 2x4 soft pine to prop it up. The other day when he moved the filter to another location he found that the pine block had turned to solid stone. Two nail holes and a knot in the wood are still plainly visible.
