    In July, a local women's bowling team competed against 47 other teams in the state finals of the Indiana Bowling Proprietors Champion of Champions Tournament.

The team of Becky Ousley, Kandi Erwin, Shelly Visel, Linda Gates and Heather Collins finished fourth overall in the finals.

August 18 1981

    Phil Brown, of Brown's Auto Trim, Warsaw, was a winner in the 1980 Great American Restyling Contest in the category of conservative custom package - top award. The contest is sponsored by Auto Trim News, the official publication of the National Association of Auto Trim Shops.

The contest was a nationwide search for the most outstanding custom restyling ideas for the nation's vehicles.

August 18 1956

    A 15-foot sunflower is growing in the Daniel Levernier garden at Milford. Dana Sue, young daughter of the Leverniers, Times-Union paper carrier, want to know if anyone has a sunflower that can top this one. Dana Sue says they raise sunflowers for the seed, which they feed the birds.

August 18 1931

    Harry Griffith, southwest of Mentone, boasts of a calf newly born having its heart in its throat. The calf seems to be normal in all respects with the exception of its shoulder blades which are set forward. The heart of the freak may be seen beating from the mouth.
