Several area residents are among those to receive awards by Christian Films and Video Association. Ken Anderson received best youth film and Sally Murphy received best actress.
Timothy A. Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Olson, 919 S. Country Club Drive, is spending the summer in Columbia, South America, as a special trainee of the Centre International de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT). A May graduate of Purdue University, Olson is studying aspects of tropical beef cattle production, with particular emphasis on the study of the four tropically adapted beef breeds found in Columbia.
Bud Stiffler, slugging American Legion center fielder, has won the Warsaw Athletic Association's trophy for having the highest batting average in the city softball league this summer. Stiffler's average of .453, with 14 hits in 31 times at bat, was 220 percentage points higher than the average of Chet Bartol, Zimmer Splints manager and outfielder. Both men played in more than 70 percent of their teams' games.
Clunette had its first aircraft sensation when two biplanes were forced to land in a field near the village for a supply of gasoline. In a brief period the countryside was fully represented by a large crowd of interested spectators, many of whom had never seen an aeroplane at close range.
