August 17 1994

    WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The 1994 National Water Ski Championships were held in West Palm Beach, Fla., Aug. 9-13, and local skiers from Wawasee High School fared well in the Boys 3 Division.

Brock Maning of Camelot Lake in Milford placed second in jumping with a launch of 138 feet. Brandon Bucher of Cindonway Shores, Syracuse, was sixth in tricks with 4,240 points and placed fourth in slalom with a score of 52 buoys. Bucher's combined scores in all three events placed him second in the overall competition with a score of 2,897.

    Brett Cumberland and Laura Krieger were named the most valuable swimmers on the Tippecanoe Valley Aquatic Club at the Jaws' recent awards banquet.

Receiving trophies for scoring the most points during the season in their respective age divisions were Chris Paris and Kim McCuan, 8 and under; Dayne Manwaring and Ellen Burdge, 9-10; Randy Paris and Cathy Duncan, 11-12; Chuck Cullison and Felicia Harrell, 13-14; and Brett Cumberland and Laura Krieger, 15 and over.

August 17 1954

    Pvt. Raymond O. Oyler, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph P. Oyler, Syracuse, recently arrived in Germany for duty with the 109th engineer battalion as a radio operator in the headquarters and service company. A former student at Purdue University, Ray entered the army last October, taking basic at Fort Leonard Wood.

    BLOOMINGTON - Mary Rippey, of Warsaw, junior at Indiana University, has been appointed a junior advisor by the dean of women's office for beginning women students at the state university this fall.
