    The Robins won the Warsaw Girls' Intermediate League Softball championship and the postseason tournament with an overall record of 14-3. Team members are Amanda Huey, Lacy Skipper, Leah Espinosa, Mechelle Henderson, Heather Aust, Cayla Bratten, Nicole Bratten (bat girl), Kayy Ellis, Mary Harden, Jessie Mitchell, Julie Kennedy, Cassie Harding, Sierra Shafer, Tori Tosch and Amanda Strube. Their coaches are Pat Tosch, Olivia Mitchell and Pam Kennedy.

August 17 1980

    In winds that ranged from excellent to none at all, the Tippecanoe Lake Sailing Club held its next-to-last regatta of the season last Sunday.

Local winners were: Hobie 16-foot class - Jason Davidson, Leesburg, second; Hobie 14-foot - Dave Ponsler, Leesburg, second; J.B. VanMeter, Warsaw, third; open class - Ross Stevens, Leesburg, only entry; small class - John Hayes, Leesburg, second (Super Porpoise).

August 17 1955

    Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schubert, of 1326 E. Main St., attended a program at Culver Military Academy, where their son, Kenneth Schubert, now in his third summer at the academy, received his gold Tuxis, a medal awarded to cadets who win proficiency in five different phases of the Culver program. These include athletics, military training, seamanship, academics and social activities.

A bronze medal is awarded for proficiency during the first year and a silver medal during the second year. Kenneth has won all three medals. Kenneth, who is enrolled in the navy summer school, will be graduated at exercises Sunday.

75 Years Ago

August 17 1930

    Dr. Hoyt, of Warsaw, and the Rev. Poole, of Hominy, Okla., were the winners in the shuffle board tournament, at Winona Lake. There were 25 rinks contesting.
