    The American Red Cross recently recognized individuals who used their Red Cross training to save a life in the past six months. They are Ivy Reed, Dalene Hufzinger, Beth Conley, Rachel Hubartt and David Jackson.

    A local woman is among a handful of Hoosiers who are certified by the Board For Certification of Genealogists, an organization in Washington, D.C., attempting to upgrade and professionalize the trade.

Mrs. Terry (Jean) Lynch, Rt. 2, Leesburg, was certified as a Genealogical Record Researcher on March 11, 1977, by the board.

    Mayor Mike Hodges says he receives curious telephone calls occasionally from citizens with peculiar problems. One recent call from an unidentified resident asked the mayor what he was going to do about the mosquitoes that were plaguing the caller at his home in the northern part of the city.

August 17 1927

    A tarantula, whose spread is a little over five inches, was speared with an ice-pick yesterday in a bunch of bananas at the F.M. Smith grocery on East Main Street.

"The tarantula," said Smith over the phone to The Times, "is as big as a saucer."
