Two-time state track winner Kerry White, a Warsaw High School graduate, was the recipient of a $1,000 check from Farm Bureau Insurance. The gift will go toward college and is in recognition of White being named Mental Attitude Award winner at the IHSAA State Finals in track this spring. With White's accomplishment, it is believed Warsaw is the first Indiana high school to have three Mental Attitude winners in consecutive years.
Bob Stauffer, 16, a summer resident of 1108 Court St., Winona Lake, and winter resident of Fort Wayne, is ready to ride the Motobecane moped bike he won from Center Cinema 1 and 2 and Ringer Cycle Shop, both of Warsaw. The $500 bike was featured in the movie, "The Deep," and more than 2,000 persons registered for the prize.
Bill Dye, Warsaw, landed an 11-1/4 pound channel catfish while fishing with a cane pole in the Tippecanoe River, near the Lozier Helvey cottage. The large catfish measured 29 inches long and 18 inches in circumference. Dye was using a 10 pound test line and a frog for bait. It took him 15 minutes to land the fish.
Stanford Smith, who has been taking a summer course in hotel management at Cornell University at Ithaca, New York, is expected to arrive Tuesday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Smith. He will return again this fall to Cornell University.
