    PIERCETON - Thanks to a grant through the Cops Fast Program, the Town of Pierceton will add an additional police officer to its payroll.

Town Marshal George Alexander introduced Trevor Griffith to the Pierceton town board Monday night, recommending he be hired as the town's fourth officer.

August 16 1980

    Joining the Warsaw Police Dept. as a radio dispatcher is a native Warsawan, Michael Brooks Dalton.

Dalton, who was among seven applicants interviewed by the Warsaw Police Dept. Hearing Board, officially began working as a radio operator Aug. 1. He replaces Daniel Yoder, who left the department to re-enlist in the United States Navy.

August 16 1955

    Janice Nelson, 17-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delford Nelson, of Burket, received congratulations and a bouquet of roses from Tomaline Witham, of Atwood, following announcement that Nelson had been named winner of the 4-H dress revue at the county fair. Her tailored suit, smarty complemented by navy and white accessories, was judged best of all clothing entries. A senior this year at Mentone High School, Janice copped the reserve championship in 1954.

August 16 1930

    Forrest Croop, playing a four-par hole on the golf course at the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, in a twosome with Joseph Lessig, hit and killed a young meadow lark with his golf ball.

As Croop was preparing to tee off, two meadow larks flew near him over the course. In a joking fashion, Lessig said, "Let's see you make a birdie in one, Croop." Croop teed off and struck the bird square in the head, killing it instantly.
