    Austin Francis, the son of Debbie Francis of Claypool and Gary Triana of Mentone, was chosen as Cutie King at the Burket Day Festival and the Cutie Queen was Kiley Foster, the daughter of Gregg and Karen Foster of Mentone.

August 14 1978

    Junior Stephens of Pierceton earned top contest rider honors at the Kosciusko County Fair with his horse "Jesse Bar Money." He took first place in the pole bending and barrel race.

August 14 1953

    On the day that UN officials signed the truce in Korea, Rev. Ernest Keasling, of Winona Lake, stood on the hot runway of K-3 air strip at P'Ohang, Korea, and watched jet bombers take off on their final mission of destruction in North Korea.

Although the truce had just been signed, it did not take effect until the evening, so the UN forces were pounding their last strikes against enemy forces.

    The Kosciusko County Jail has been empty for the past two weeks, establishing a record for this year. Sheriff Frank McKrill says his iron boarding house is already prepared but he is not longing for any new lodgers.
