    Howard Prater, of the 36-45 age group, came away as the overall winner of the Kosciusko County Fair 5-K Road Race last Saturday, with a time of 19:33. Winners by age group were as follows: 14 and under, Jamie Kruger; 15-25, Michael Darr; 26-35, Eric Wynn; 36-45, Howard Prater; and 46 and over, DeWain Cobbs.

    Teri Clampitt, Atwood, and Anje Anglin, Route 5, Warsaw, two Mentone majorettes, recently attended a twirling and pom-pon clinic, held on the campus of Smith-Walbridge Camp, Syracuse. The majorettes participated in a week of activity under the direction of the majorette staff.

August 10 1948

    It was bound to happen sooner or later. Flying saucers came to Kosciusko County Friday night. The phenomenon was first sighted in the southern sky, then east, then west. At times the round silver flashes were all going at once.

One observer advanced the theory that the spots of light were caused by mobile anti-aircraft searchlights playing on a low cloud deck. Others just wouldn't comment. All, however, agreed that it was some sights!

August 10 1923

    A dog belonging to George Leffel, small son of Walter Leffel, found three bills amounting to $25 on the sidewalk at North Manchester. It picked the bills up in its mouth and started to carry them to its master when J.K. Lautzenhiser recognized the money. A moment later William Enyeart of Liberty Mills came along hunting for the money, having lost it but a few minutes before.
