    The council of Rural Electric Communicators has cited Kosciusko County REMC Cooperative as the winner of an award in its 1989 "Spotlight on Excellence."

REMC received an award of merit in the Best Advertising Program category for "Radio Campaign." Larry W. Easterday, director of member relations for Kosciusko County REMC, wrote and produced the award-winning radio spots.

Aug. 6 1974

    Ron Anglin, Nappanee, received the trophy for his grand champion barrow, which was chosen with a Duroc Barrow owned by Erin McCormick, South Whitley, awarded the reserve championship honors.

Aug. 6 1949

    Donna Ellen Frauhiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Frauhiger, of North Buffalo Street, has been chosen as a member of the All-College Band, which will appear at the All-Star football games to be played Friday evening at Soldiers' Field, Chicago.

Frauhiger, who was a graduate this year from the Warsaw High School, will be one of the 50 clarinetists with the 200-piece band.

Aug. 6 1924

    One of the old landmarks, a weeping willow tree standing in the yard at the Fred Clark home, North Lake Street, was blown down on Tuesday evening by the high winds. The tree was planted by "Sinner" Philpott in the 1940s.
