Warsaw's Tony Elliott won a 30-lap sprint car feature race in the USAC Crestliner Van series broadcast live on ESPN-TV from Hinsdale, Ill. The fourth fastest qualifier of the evening, Elliott started the feature from the inside position on the second row. He led the entire race.
Syracuse fire chief Robert Pennick has announced the development of an additional service to the community through the fire department - the Underwater Rescue Team. The team comprises four men who completed scuba diving training.
Marge and Merl Schaaf, of 324 N. Sherman St., moving to Monticello to open a restaurant there. They're former operators of Marge's Drive Inn, way out on East Center, recently purchased by Mary Odle of North Webster.
Charles Colbert, 60, of Claypool, has carried mail on rural free delivery route No. 1 out of that place for 22 years. During the first five years, he never missed a day on the route, having taken no vacation. He never has missed a day on the route during the entire 22 years on account of sickness. He first started with the route covering a distance of 23 miles and received a salary of $500 per year.
