    Katie Dombek of Jefferson School won best of show in the 21st annual Fifth-Grade Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by the Kosciusko County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Other students receiving awards were Wendi Norton, Burket School, first place; Ruth Moore, Warsaw Christian School, second place; and Eric Grossnickle, Sacred Heart, third place.

April 9 1978

    Roger D. Frantz, Rt. 2, Pierceton, caught a 4-1/2-pound Northern Pike while fishing at Winona Lake behind Warsaw Community High School this week. The fisherman reported the 28-1/2-inch fish was caught with spinner bait.

April 9 1953

    Pledged to Pleiades, an honorary society for sorority members at Indiana University, was Jane Frisinger, North Webster. Members of Pleiades are chosen on the basis of excellence in leadership and prominence in campus social activities. Frisinger is a junior in the School of Education and a member of Delta Gamma social sorority at I.U.

    Agnes Haas, Pierceton, who is a student at Indiana University, Bloomington, has been chosen as a member of the co-ed debating team of the university which will meet the Indiana Central College Girls' debating team on April 12. The question to be debated is "Philippine Independence."
