Chester Southerton was all smiles after receiving a first-place ribbon in a walking race in Saturday's Special Olympics meet at Lakeview Middle School.
Jon Bowers served as a page for State Rep. Thames Mauzy (R-Warsaw) in the Indiana House of Representatives March 18. Jon, 10, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bowers, Warsaw, and is in the fifth grade at Lincoln Elementary School. Pages aid the legislators by delivering messages, and assist the staff of the House of distributing materials such as bills and mail.
Minerva Zimmerman, of Silver Lake, will be 100 years old April 17. Although she maintains that nothing she has said or done has helped her to live to be a centenarian, we are sure her sense of humor, interest in others, unwavering faith has had much to do with the longevity of her life.
Migrating martins have returned to their cozy little bird houses at Al Cuffel's home on South Detroit Street from their annual winter pilgrimage to the south during the winter months. They arrived one day ahead of Cuffel's prediction and were chortling their songs as they inspected some of the pretty new bird houses erected for them by Cuffel. "I believe my martins got back one day ahead of Dr. John R. White's birds this year," proudly declared Cuffel.
