    SOUTH WHITLEY - Gary Chen, a senior at Whitko High School, has been named to the 1991 Indiana Academic All-Star Team.

He was one of only 40 students in Indiana to receive the honor. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chen, South Whitley.

    WINONA LAKE - The Rev. Charles H. Ashman will become the Director of Admissions of the Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake at the beginning of the 1976-77 academic year in September.

He has resigned as pastor of the Winona Lake Brethren Church to accept the position, succeeding Dr. John J. Davis, who will assume the duties of executive vice president of Grace Schools.

    Pfc. Merrill Van Cleave, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Van Cleave, of East Main Street, is home on leave this week after graduating from teletype school at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, Wyo. He received his promotion to private, first class, on March 1.

Merrill graduated from Warsaw High School in 1948 and attended the Arthur Jordan conservatory at Indianapolis.

    Rev. J.T. Bean, pastor of the Warsaw Methodist Church, will leave on Tuesday for Newcastle where he will attend the 83rd session of the North Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church. Rev. John S. Cain, of Warsaw, and Rev. T.M. Guild, of Winona Lake, retired ministers of the conference, also are in attendance.
