    At the Indiana Association of United Way's State Leaders Conference in Indianapolis, Max Courtney recently was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for Kosciusko County.

Courtney was chosen by his peers for his leadership in volunteer positions with United Way. He served on the allocations/evaluations committee, as campaign chairman and as president and chairman of the board of United Way in Kosciusko County.

April 6 1981

    What surely is one of the largest - if not the largest - northern pike caught in this area was landed by a local fisherman following a 45-minute battle with the lunker.

David Everly, Warsaw, caught the prize 16-pound, three-ounce pike, which measured 41-1/4 inches, while fishing from shore at Pike Lake. He hooked the fish on a Little Cleo daredevil and landed it on 12-pound testline and without the benefit of a net.

April 6 1956

    Hazel Cook, of east on the Wooster Road, reports that the Martins have returned for the summer at her home. Friday only one pair were back, but many have come during the weekend.

April 6 1931

    Work on the erection of a log cabin for the Warsaw Boy Scout troop, was commenced Wednesday under the direction of Pete Thorn and assistant Scout masters. The approximate cost of the structure, when completed, will be $300. Donations for funds to build the cabin are being taken at a contribution of 25 cents a board.

The cabin is being built at Winona Lake near the dam and on the west side.
