April 29 1995

    ROCHESTER - Brandon Fisher, a fourth-grader at Mentone School, was the grand prize winner in the recent "Hoop Shoot Benefit" at Wal-Mart in Rochester. Proceeds will go to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis.

Fisher, the son of Larry and Donna Fisher of Talma, received a $100 gift certificate.

April 29 1980

    "There wasn't much to it," a modest Warsaw couple replied when questioned about a life-saving act they performed earlier this week.

Richard and Dorothy Emmons, 2415 W. Side Drive, Warsaw, were delivering The Times-Union when they found 83-year-old Ruth H. Ladd lying unconscious on the floor of her home. The couple quickly summoned help and implemented first aid procedures they learned years ago until an ambulance arrived. The woman is recuperating at KCH and is listed in fair condition.

April 29 1955

    The Syracuse Hot Water Bottles, an "instrumental" group composed of Fay Ann Gard and Paul May, playing piccolos, Larry Gustafson, Billy Dorsey and Paul Beezley, playing jugs filled with various amounts of water, and accompanied at the piano by Martha Firestone, won first place in the Kosciusko County "Share-the-Fun" talent festival, in which 24 musical acts from county 4-H clubs were entered.

April 29 1930

    Daylight-saving time has again become a highly controversial subject in northern Indiana and southern Michigan with Mishawaka, Elkhart and Goshen deciding to remain on standard time while South Bend, Michigan City, LaPorte and Niles will set their clocks ahead April 27.
