April 27 1991

    Colleen Miller, daughter of Denise Cartwright, Pierceton, and Amos Miller, Fort Wayne, will participate in the 1991 American Coed Pre-Teen Pageant June 19-21 at Adams Mark Hotel, Indianapolis.

Miller is a second-grade student at Pierceton Elementary School.

April 27 1976

    Mrs. Claude (Betty Rose) Stahl was presented a plaque designating her as the "Outstanding Citizen of the Year" for 1975 during the annual dinner meeting held in the Pierceton Middle School gym. Mrs. Stahl was cited for her civic contributions including activities in the Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and her efforts to provide gifts for the mental patients at Christmas.

April 27 1951

    Jerry Moore, Pierceton High School sophomore, was timed in an amazing state record tying 21.5 seconds in the 220 yard dash as the Cubs romped over Atwood and Sidney in a triangular track meet held at Pierceton.

The 21.5 seconds equals the fastest time ever recorded by an Indiana high school 220 yard dashman, M. Gonzales, of Gary Froebel, greatest sprinter in state history, set that mark in 1942.

April 27 1926

    A committee consisting of Elmer Funk, Walter Kintzel and Everett Rasor was named by President E.A. Gast, of the Chamber of Commerce to take steps to protect a big tree in the Berkey woods four or five miles north and west of Warsaw.

This tree is a curiosity, being 32 feet around at the base, 9 feet through, and 60 feet high to the first limb. The duty of this committee is to take steps to preserve this tree, said to be the largest oak in Indiana.
