Conservation officer Mike Saffen didn't let his catch get away. He couldn't. His catch was himself. It seems Saffen was out fishing this week and when he tried to jerk the line to snag "the big one," the hook didn't end up in the fish's mouth, but got pulled back into the boat and lodged in Saffen's hand. It required a trip to KCH emergency room to dig out the hook. We wonder if this catch will be the "biggest" of the year?

Robinson was also appointed officer in charge immediately with the authority to interview and hire applicants for the force. The Syracuse Police Department is manned by four regular officers but is down to two, Robinson and Joe Thornburg, since Town Marshall Dale Sparklin retired and Deputy Marshall Lawrence Firestone resigned, both effective April 30.

The tree was furnished by the Woman's Relief Corps, who also had charge of the ceremonies.
