    NORFOLK, Va. - Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Larry Irwin recently reported for duty aboard the destroyer USS Elliot, homeported in San Diego, Calif.

He is the son of Larry Irwin Sr., North Webster. He joined the Navy in September 1984.

    BOURBON - On April 24 area residents are invited to share in a special ceremony honoring Dr. Vactor O. Connell.

The celebration will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Triton High School auditorium and is being held in honor of the Bourbon physician's 30 years of dedicated service to his community.

    The C.A. Rovenstines will celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary April 12, at their home in Atwood. Mr. Rovenstine will be in the store as usual. He has been in business since he was 17 years old, starting with his father.

April 22 1927

    Virginia Peterson, Warsaw, won the large Easter basket filled with chocolate candy given away Saturday evening by the proprietors of the Washington Candy Store to the one guessing nearest to the correct weight of the basket. Peterson guessed 4 pounds and 3 ounces, the exact weight of the basket. Others who came near winning were Helen Gilliam, who guessed 4 pounds and 5-1/2 ounces, Bernice Anglin, 4 pounds and 7 ounces, and Annabelle Weinsheimer, 4-3/4 pounds.
