Warsaw Mayor Jeff Plank presented 6-year-old Brittney Michelle McClelland of Warsaw with a certificate of commendation for saving another child from drowning. Brittney was swimming at the Kosciusko County YMCA March 22 when she noticed a child under water. She swam to her, grabbed her arm, brought her head up out of the water and swam to the edge of the pool, where she called for help.
Specialist Fifth Class Steven L. Haywood is currently home on 30 days leave after serving a three-year term in Germany. Haywood is the son of Lodema Haywood, Leesburg, and Robert Haywood, Warsaw.
Bourbon friends have received word that Lewis Goss, National American Legion Commander, will make a 20-day tour in Korea to learn more about the situation there. He is the son of Hazel Ketchum Goss, now of Pasadena, Calif., but a former Bourbon resident.
Nellie Mikel, Etna Green, is one of 27 freshman girls of Indiana University who have been recognized as outstanding by Mortar Board, honorary women's organization at the university. The freshmen are chosen each year on the basis of their scholarship, personality and activity on the campus.
