    EVANSVILLE - University of Evansville freshman Courtney Fugate of Leesburg recently received the Kappa Mu Epsilon-Indiana Delta chapter, Freshman Award for the 1995-96 school year. KME is a mathematics honor society.

He is the son of Gary and Marelene Fugate, Leesburg.

April 18 1981

    Dave Owens, of Warsaw, shot his first hole-in-one at the Rozella Ford Golf Course on the number 15 hole. Owens used a three-wood to conquer the par-three 209-yard hole.

Owens did the amazing feat in the presence of golfing mates, Ron Truex, Ray Miner, Bill Irwin and Norm Denney. It was the first hole-in-one of the season at Rozella Ford Golf Course.

April 18 1956

    Larry Schuman, of Larwill High School, was one of six area high school students among 4,300 seniors from every state in the nation who have been awarded certificates of merit by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

These students are all estimated to be in the top one-half of one percent in ability of all high school seniors in the nation.

April 18 1931

    By unanimous vote the city council voted to amend the city cemetery ordinance so that the use of glass jars as vases in Oakwood Cemetery is prohibited. It is claimed that these jars cause a great deal of damage to automobile tires. According to Sexton John Norris, this spring 19 one-horse wagon loads of broken jars were removed from the cemetery.
