    For the fourth time in 17 years the title of "Citizen of the Year" must be made plural as a husband and wife share the award presented annually by the Pierceton Community Chamber of Commerce.

Auctioneer Bill Warren and his wife, Molly, are the latest recipients.

April 18 1975

    Lloyd Harrell, of Merrillville, was awarded a $27,000 contract as superintendent of the Tippecanoe Valley School Corp. at the TVSC school board meeting in Mentone.

Replacing Superintendent Robert Forbes, who will become the TVSC business manager at a salary of $24,000, Harrell's contract will be effective until June 30, 1978.

April 18 1950

    Kent Kurtz and Robert Weiner, members of the debating team at Manchester College, North Manchester, recently attended the national Tau Kappa Alpha conference held at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, Ky. They won four of their five debates. In the individual rankings, Kent Kurtz, who is a member of the senior class at Manchester College, was named among the top 10.

Robert Weimer, a sophomore at Manchester college, is the son of Prof. and Mrs. Harry Weimer, North Manchester.

    (April 18, 1914) Just 11 years ago today - occurred the disastrous Winona fire, at which time 23 houses were destroyed. Only the dynamiting of buildings in the path of the flames prevented even greater loss of property. The fire department from Fort Wayne responded to a call for help and rendered valuable assistance to the fire fighters of Warsaw and Winona.
