    Brent Wilcoxson received Winona Lake's first Bill Reneker Memorial Community Service Award at the meeting of Winona Lake's town council.

Begun by Judy Reneker, wife of the late Bill Reneker, the award is to be given annually to an individual who is respected by the community and involved in some form of service to the citizens of the town that results in a significant impact on the entire community.

April 15 1980

    SEYMOUR - Tony Rowe of the Warsaw Baker Boy's Club captured the state ping pong title for 17-18-year olds.

Chuck Kintzel of the Baker Club was second in the 15-16 age group. The Baker team placed fourth among the 21 teams competing. Other team members were Calvin Thomas (13-14) and Clint Woodling (9-10).

    The spelling contestants from Cromwell school from the seventh grade were Darlene Ritter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Ritter, first, and Karen Maggart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delosa Maggart, second.

    The Pennsylvania railroad system in 1929 handled one of the heaviest movements of freight traffic in its history. The public service rendered by the lines of the three operating regions and the New York zone was equivalent to moving one ton of freight a distance of 49,174,162,345 miles.
