Five students from Warsaw Community High School are believed to be the first from their school to participate in the American Invitational Mathematics Exam.
The winners in the Burger Chef drawing were recently announced. The Grand Prize winner was Phillis Dye, North Webster. Her prize was an aluminum boat with electric trolling motor. Other winners are Jerry Hudson, Mentone, inflatable boat; Betty Engle, Warsaw, $50 gift certificate at Warsaw Sporting Goods; Teresa Culp, Warsaw, his and hers jobbing suits; Bill Hackworth, Winona Lake, CB radio; K. Arthur Wehr, Pierceton, water skis; and Sharon Floyd, Warsaw, two tennis racquets plus a racquet club membership.
Max Truex, Warsaw High School's great little distance runner, crossed the finish line in the mile run with a record-breaking 4:30.6 performance, the best effort of his career and the feature attraction of Warsaw's 67-42 triumph over Plymouth in the season track opener. Truex' time, which broke his own school record and a 16-year-old Warsaw track mark, was the fastest in the state this season.
Two first prizes were won by two White Collie puppies, eight months old, exhibited at the Fort Wayne Kennel Show last week by Major Carl F. Beyer, of Warsaw. A reserve winner's prize was won by Beyer's female puppy, a White Collie.
