April 13 1987

    Merle Shively, recently inducted in the Fort Wayne Baseball Hall of Fame, was honored by the Warsaw Community Men's Slow Pitch Softball Association by officially starting the 1987 season at Center Lake. Shively, a top pitcher for semi-pro and federation leagues in northern Indiana in the 1940s and 50s, threw out the first pitch.

    When the contest between the Fordson and International tractors is held next Tuesday at the Creed Thomas farm south of Warsaw, it is expected that interested farmers from all of the county will attend. The choice of judges is to be made of straightness of furrows, covering trash, uniformity, crowning or flatness, pulverizing, staightness and neatness.
