    Amber Lynn Utter, 11, Rochester, has been selected as a candidate in the 1991 Miss Indiana National Pre-Teen and Pre-Teen Petite Pageant to be held May 17-19 in Columbus Holiday Inn.

Utter is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Utter, Rochester. She is a fifth-grade student at Akron Elementary School.

    Merri Strong, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hal R. Strong, 123 W. Van Buren St., Leesburg, was installed as president of Alpha Chi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega on March 24.

Strong is a junior pharmacy major at Butler University in Indianapolis.

    Donald Mahoney, 15-year-old Argos boy, was named "star Hoosier farmer" by the Future Farmers of America organization in a contest held at Lafayette.

Other contest winners included Noah Lemler, Bourbon, and Gerald W. Snider, New Paris.

    Maple sugar camps were wide open near here today and reported excellent runs of sap. Vendors were disposing of the famous delicious Hoosier pure maple syrup at $2 per gallon.
