    Four area competitors from the Kosco H2O Skiers team captured first and third place finishes in the Mastercraft 1992 Indoor Doubles Championship March 28 in Grand Rapids, Mich. Debbie Wilson, a student at WCHS, and Steve Hawblitzel, a student at IUSB, won first place honors for their performances. Julie Minnick, a student at Wawasee High School, and Gary Hawblitzel, who also attends IUSB, received a third place ranking in the competition.

    April's Time-Union calendar girl is Jody Carlin, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Carlin, Rt. 2, Leesburg. A student at Warsaw Middle School, Jody, in addition to flying kites, plays piano and also enjoys basketball and track.

April 1 1952

    Pfc. Herbert E. Moyer, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Moyer, Silver Lake, arrived home Monday from Trieste, Italy, where he has been stationed with the 351st Infantry the past 38 months.

Enlisting Oct. 4, 1948, a few days after his 18th birthday, Herbert has basic training at an army base in Kentucky before going overseas.

April 1 1927

    Waiting for a week, until April Fool's Day, for the wind to turn in the right direction, away from a house being remodeled by Merle Hodges off the extreme end of South High Street, Al Cuffel at 6:15 Friday morning touched a match to a large pile of old boards, tar roofing and other debris and started a fire that sent flames 20 feet into the air. Someone, not knowing the exact situation telephoned the fire department, and the April fool joke was complete.
