From 1947 until 1968, the coveted Silver Horseshoe galloped around the region a symbol of basketball victory. For 21 years cheer sections screamed for its possession during games between county schools. The Silver Horseshoe is now on display at the Old Jail Museum in Warsaw. Framed and delivered by former Historical Society president Claude Stahl, the coveted basketball trophy has become a permanent exhibit at the museum.

School children and energy conscious adults stood in chilly weather at bus stops this morning as record low temperatures brought the mercury to its lowest readings in more than three months. Not since the first week in May have temperatures dropped to the upper 30s and low 40s experienced around the state today. The Times-Union thermometer registered a low of 41 at 6 o’clock this morning (Sept. 8). By 11 a.m., however, the mercury here had climbed to 62.

Charlie “Chuck” Brower, county surveyor, is back from a 50-mile canoe trip through lakes of northern Minnesota and southern Canada. He reports the fishing fair, and the trip with a party of five very pleasant. That lake region is a Mecca for many fishermen during the summer months.

Among the large group of Kosciusko County school children that will attend the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis on “Educational Day” will be winners of the district and county contests. There are 142 county winners to appear in the parade and 17 district winners, including the Warsaw High School basketball team, 10 members; Silver Lake High School players, six; and Lloyd Downe, Milford, winner of the second-year Latin contest.
