    POTPOURRI - The old cliche "Kids say the darnedest things" was appropriately exemplified when the C-SPAN School Bus visited Lakeview Middle School. The hostess was attempting to get the young teens to guess what C-SPAN stood for (Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network). The kids needed help with "cable" and "satellite," but got "network" pretty easily. When informed that the PA stood for public affairs, one young man piped up with, "Oh! That's why Bill Clinton is on it!"

    Tuesday was the first day of classes for the New Life Christian Academy in the Apostolic Gospel Tabernacle on Old U.S. 30 W. The new school has approximately 30 pupils in grades kindergarten through seventh. According to principal Rick Cooper, the academy is an Accelerated Christian Education school.

September 8 1958

    Barbara Fowler, of Osterley, England, eight miles west of London, spent August with Mrs. Robert Deloe, at Winona Lake. the two young women have been pen pals many years but never met until this summer. Fowler, a school teacher, visited Chicago before returning to England.

    Madelyn Gatke will leave for North Manchester College where she will resume her studies, after enjoying a summer vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gatke of Winona Lake.
