Enrique Nunez, 17, Warsaw Community High School, won his first amateur boxing match Saturday, Aug. 27 by technical knockout in the second round over DeKalb Boxing Club's Landen Harvey at the River City Boxing Club in Fort Wayne. His uncle and father were boxers; his grandfather is a local legend in his hometown of Guadalupe, Mexico. His next match is Sept. 10 in Goshen.
“Leadership for Women” will be presented Sept. 29 at the 2517 Restaurant in Warsaw. Keynote speaker is Indiana Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman, who relies on the principles of “faith, family and hard work.”

 Warsaw Community High School senior Chris Walthers says the Class of 1991 chose to plant a flowering red crab tree on WCHS grounds “because of the stunning flowers in the spring and because it bears fruit. The reddish clove displays the power within our class and the fruit shows that we will successfully bear positive fruits of life.”
Erica Zuniga, daughter of Eustolio and Sherry Zuniga, Warsaw, was the winner of the National Star Potential Award and took third runner-up in the Angel Face Category of the New Star Discovery Beauty Pageant national competition in Illinois. She will remain the Indiana winner for the 0-7 month category until May 1991.

Warsaw Fire Department was host to other county firemen at the demonstration of a new foam fire fighting technique when the 70-year-old Milice home at the southwest corner of Indiana St. and Winona Ave. was intentionally burned.
New YMCA officers Aug. 19: Jack Lowe, president; Joe Shellabarger, vice president; Phil Harris, outgoing president; Jim Kees, treasurer; Robert Steele, secretary.
A fourth-floor addition to Murphy Medical Center was announced today, Aug. 21, by Hazel J. Murphy, president and administrator, and will be of the same fire-proof construction as the present three stories.

 Norman Anderson, 11, and his brother Robert, 13, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Anderson, Warsaw, survived a starting field of 31 entries in the 1940 Soap-Box Derby, but when the checkered flag was waved down in the finals, it was Norman who claimed the coveted first prize, coming down the pavement in his No. 19 silver streak buggy for Lake City Bank in 33.4 seconds. Robert drove a speedster for Fashion Shoe store and won second place honors last year. Norman will compete in Fort Wayne Tuesday, July 16 with other winners for the right to continue to the National finals in Akron, Ohio August 11.
