    POTPOURRI - Alvon Abbott, Warsaw, has a beautiful, albeit dangerous, hornet's nest hanging in the maple tree in his backyard. After waling near it frequently, Abbott was recently stung when he got too close for the insect's comfort. Abbott keeps his distance now.

September 5 1983

    Jeff Abrams fired a one-under-par 139 to win medalist honors in qualifying for the Tippecanoe Lake Golf Club championship flight tournament over the weekend. Abrams shot a 69-70 in the 36-hole qualifying.


50 Years Ago

September 5 1958

    Faith and Hope Sharp, daughters of the Rev. and Mrs. Alvin T. Sharp, each read 64 books in the summer program for children sponsored by the Bourbon Library. Carolyn Hawley placed second with 53 and Roba Lee Shori third with 52. A total of 114 boys and girls participated.

    George Xanders, a prominent Democratic attorney of Syracuse, was named as county attorney of Kosciusko County, succeeding Francis K. Bowser, now first assistant United States attorney at South Bend.
