    Many golfers wish to have a single hole-in-one in a lifetime, but Lance Clay has had four. However, Clay's hole-in-one is a bit out of the ordinary. Since 1990, Clay, 43, has been completely blind in his left eye and has 20/200 vision in his right, due to complications from diabetes.

Clay had played golf for 20 years, but stopped playing in 1989 when he started to lose his sight. In 1997, Clay's friend Denny Hepler, the owner of Raccoon Run Golf Course, persuaded him to play again.

September 4 1984

    Lee Rust, a 68-year-old Winona Lake resident, is known as a railroad buff. For 30 years, Rust has been collecting electric model trains. Today he has a large collection consisting of more than 40 steam engines and more than 60 diesel, electric and gas electric engines. Beside the 100 engines, Rust has more than 500 "rolling stock," which are cars of all types such as box cars and coal cars. He converted a downstairs bedroom in his home to "The Train Room."

September 4 1959

    After a year of duty with a mobile army surgical hospital in Korea, where she rode in jeeps, staff cars and an occasional ambulance, getting behind the wheel of her brand new convertible was a joyous experience for Capt. Betty Flory, of Mentone.

During her leave, she visited her mother, Mrs. Dave Ellsworth, at Mentone, renewed friendships with local doctors and nurses with whom she had worked at McDonald hospital.

September 4 1934

    Pierceton experienced the same terrific wind storm which hit Warsaw Tuesday evening. The telephone company reported that 25 telephone poles in Pierceton were down when wind blew trees across the wires. Two hundred Warsaw phones were out of service and it was expected that the damage could not be repaired for another two days.
