At 9 a.m. VanDuyne, a fifth-grade teacher at Washington Elementary School, Warsaw, walked into a surprise assembly in the school’s gym and one of several standing ovations. VanDuyne was named one of 10 teachers in the state selected as a 2002 Project E Excellence in Education Teacher Award winner. As one of the Project E honorees, VanDuyne received an $8,000 grant “to use as she wishes.”
