September 27 1998

    A Warsaw police officer on routine patrol noticed smoke coming from The Butterfly at the southeast corner of Lake and Market streets shortly before 5 a.m. and notified the fire departments.

The fire took out a quarter-block of Warsaw's downtown, including The Butterfly and Warsaw Tool Supply Inc.

    POTPOURRI - Tasty Tomatoes - "Cupcake," a dog owned by Mildred Ellison, of rural Pierceton, has become quite a hunter in recent days. Seems the pooch loves to hunt tomato worms in the garden, then hauls them off, and buries the bugs.

    Thomas Miller has been elected president of the Syracuse High School senior class.

Other officers elected by the seniors were: Linda Lantz, vice president; Judy Jones, secretary-treasurer; Diane Alfrey, student council; and Charles Garner and Glen Longenecker, class sponsors.

    Mrs. William Kirkendall of north of Pierceton reported at the Times office that a volunteer bean stalk, which grew among a row of peas, yielded 815 navy beans.
