10 Years Ago The groundbreaking ceremony for the Glover Pavilion over the stage at Central Park took place this morning, Sept. 20. Richard Glover, 91, who owned and operated Glover Furniture, and his daughter, Jane Glover-McInnis, wanted to show their gratitude to the community. Mayor Ernie Wiggins thanked the Glover family. “It will be a nice addition to Central Park.” Kosciusko Literacy Services hosted a booth with a “Dora the Explorer” theme at Celebracion Latina Sept. 10. Each family who stopped by the booth was given a choice of several children's books. Shriranjani Sowmianarayanan, a first-grader at Harrison Elementary School, won the Dora the Explorer talking dollhouse given away in a drawing. 25 Years Ago Warsaw High School Class of 1940 is holding a reunion at Viewpoint Restaurant this weekend, Sept. 14 and 15. The 93-member class has not been together since graduation 50 years ago. There are 68 members still alive and 52 are planning to be here. Head Coach, Don Geozeff; Assistant Coach, Joe Harris; Manager, John Lucas; co-captains are Beigh and Colt. 75 Years Ago Tons of special scenery, electrical equipment and stage properties will be brought to Winona Lake for the dramatic and operatic version of Mendelssohn's “Elijah,” to be presented in the tabernacle Saturday, August 3. Singers from Warsaw, Winona, Fort Wayne, Goshen, North Manchester and many other Indiana communities will comprise the auxiliary chorus, and will support the professional Frank Bennett Choristers being brought from Chicago. Mark Love, bass-baritone of the Chicago Opera Company, will sing the title role. Mrs. Rena Olds, popular Warsaw soprano, will appear in the role of the angel, singing an aria. The production will be staged under the direction of John Ross Reed, who produced a play shown at the Chicago World's Fair. Adults, 50 cents; Children, 25 cents.
