Four Warsaw residents had some anxious moments, but arrived home safely last weekend from a tour of Ireland. Warsaw Police Department Chief Steve Foster and his wife, Karen, along with Ed and Pat Likens were told they might have to stay longer in Ireland after the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. shut down the airlines. However, when planes started flying again at the end of the week, the foursome came home on schedule last Saturday.

Lakeland Christian Academy booted Portage Christian 10-0 in a soccer match recently that sounded more like a football score. The Cougars had four goals from Corey Rose, two from Ryan Miller and one each from Jeff Mathisen, Larry Harvey, Thad Winter and Vern Gross. Gross and Winter scored goals away from their usual positions of fullback and goalie respectively.

From “Miss Cutie Queen” of the North Webster Mermaid festival to runner-up in the “Junior Miss Indiana” contest 10 years later. That’s the accomplishment of Rita Lynn Lockridge, a student at Beaver Dam High School. Rita, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lockridge of Akron, was runner-up last night to the new “Junior Miss Indiana”. She won $50 as runner-up. Miss Lockridge was “Cutie Queen” at the North Webster Mermaid festival in 1951.

Winona Lake - Carl Denny has purchased the Gibraltar cottage near Boys’ City, and is rebuilding and making it a comfortable winter home for himself and family.

Glen Longenecker has bought a fine corner lot on McDonald Island and will build a cottage on it in the near future.
