Members of Venture Crew 2715, Winona Lake, completed a 12-day summer trip to Central Appalachia. First stop was Pipestem, W.Va., where the crew had a full-day whitewater rafting trip down the New River. After spending three days in various activities there, they were off to a seven-day stay at Front Royal, Va. From there they commuted to and from Washington, D.C., where they were given a VIP tour of the capitol by one of Sen. Richard Lugar's interns.

Jayne Deaton, 16, of Bourbon, showed her 5-year-old Quarter horse gelding, Tiffs Sunny Dee, at the Indiana State Fair. She received a third placing out of 64 entrants. Deaton is the daughter of George and Jean Deaton of Bourbon and is a seventh year 4-H member. She is a junior at Triton High School.

Our editor, Curtis "Gabby" Garber, will be back on familiar ground tonight when he subs for vacationing sports editor Don Derry in covering the high school football opener at Plymouth between our town's Warsaw Tigers and the Plymouth Rockies. "Gabby" was sports editor for 10 years before taking over as Times-Union editor five years ago.

Scott Swanson, a resident of  near Atwood, reported to Sheriff Virgil Yeager here recently the loss of 50 bushels of onions. The onions, yellow and in crates, were stolen from his field sometime between Thursday and Saturday morning. The thieves drove a truck into the field and loaded on the crates.
