A cloudburst struck the city of Warsaw and surrounding countryside Wednesday afternoon; nearly two inches of water fell in less than three hours’ time according to the measure at the city waterworks. The wind blew with the strength of a gale for approximately two minutes. Trees were felled across West, North Detroit and East Center streets and on homes on North Union and North Lake streets. Most serious damage was done to the home of F.M. Perkins at the corner of Perry and West streets when a giant tree smashed into the back of the house, forcing the walls apart. An automobile belonging to Dave Norris, South Buffalo Street, was submerged in five feet of water when caught under the South Columbia Street viaduct at the Pennsylvania Railroad. Nearby resident Charles Bratt carried him to safety. Waters of the storm formed a pool nearly one city block long. Taking advantage of the artificial lake were Richard Heagy, Jack Evans, Betty and Barbara Alexander.
