10 Years Ago Coco Oats is the new hot oatmeal from Little Crow Foods, a family-owned company in Warsaw. “We’ve been perfecting this idea for years,” says company president Denny Fuller. According to Fuller and Little Crow Foods taste tests, 100 percent of kids and 94 percent of adults who tried CoCo Oats like the taste. 25 Years Ago Winona Lake’s federal revenue sharing money will be used for construction of a town hall, a dredging project for the canal, and reforestation and clean-up of trees in the town. The majority of the expected $58,000 will be used for renovation of the old fire station into a town hall. Town board members were told renovating the old building, which currently houses the police department, would cost an estimated $62,110. 50 Years Ago Dick Lesh, star quarterback of Warsaw’s fine high school football team last season, is now one of five signal callers on the Hanover College varsity squad. Dick is one of two freshman quarterbacks. There is also one senior, a sophomore and a junior. Lesh is the heaviest of the five at 185 pounds and also the tallest at 6-3. 75 Years Ago Leroy Moore, Winona Lake, landed a 13-pound pike recently while fishing on Pike Lake near the swimming beach. Reports from numerous Warsaw fishermen state that fishing for pike and other game fish on Pike Lake is the best in years. Mrs. Everett Rasor, one of Warsaw’s most ardent lady Isaac Waltons, has also been very successful in snaring a number of pike though none has been as large as Moore’s catch. Moore’s pike was the largest reported taken this season.
