It has been said that out of great evil can come good. Syndicated columnist Cal Thomas hopes that will be the case after last week’s terrorist attacks on the United States. Thomas will be the featured speaker Oct. 6 at Rodeheaver Auditorium in Winona Lake as part of the American Lyceum Lecture series. The series is sponsored by Grace College and the Village of Winona. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Thomas still resides there. His father was a Washington, Ind., native and moved to D.C. when he was 19 years old.

Picketing Warsaw teachers were present at every door of Warsaw Community High School prior to the beginning of talks between the Warsaw Community Education Association, the school board and a state mediator. The two sides are attempting to reach an agreement on a contract to replace one that expired June 30. Teachers have remained in the classrooms, but have picketed on at least two occasions.

Paul E. Jackson, former Kosciusko County agricultural agent, now of Fort Wayne, was one of three Indiana extension men honored recently at the National Association of County Agents convention in New York. Jackson was awarded a distinguished service plaque. Jackson served nine years as Kosciusko agent.

On the opening day of school in Warsaw there were no laggards and none were tardy. At 7 o’clock in the morning, a full hour before the school house doors opened on the first day, the Times cameraman found a large group of Warsaw youngsters bedecked in their best clothes anxiously awaiting to get into their new school rooms and see their new teachers. The new Center Ward junior high school building, was just completed at a cost of around $100,000. Record enrollment was made the first day.
